Items can either be thrown in the top, or they can be placed in one at a time by right clicking on the Crucible with the desired item in hand. Be warned that one can accidentally place items, such as enchanted tools and weapons, not only creating a large mess of aspects that may be turned to Flux, but also irrevocably destroying the item. One can attach Arcane Bellows to the side to increase the speed at which the water in the Crucible begins to boil, and one can also place an Everfull Urn within one to two blocks of the Crucible to keep it full at all times, eliminating the need for Arcane Bellows as the water will always be full and boiling. A Crucible can actually be created by using either a Wand or Staff on a cauldron.

The Crucible is a component of the Thaumatorium and a device used to conduct Alchemy. To use it, it must be filled with some amount of water, and a heat source, such as a flame, whether it be temporary or permanent, or lava. By adding items into the Crucible while the water is boiling, the items will be broken down and their aspects released into the water. In this way, one can add special items known as catalysts into the Crucible, which will result in a specific amount of the aspects contained within the Crucible to be absorbed by the catalyst, and the catalyst to be converted into a new item. However, one cannot always place the exact number of each aspect needed for a single recipe in. When this happens, the leftover aspects remain in the crucible for further use. This is only temporary, however, as over time the aspects will break down into Flux and be released into the Aura. As so, one should try to minimize excess aspects, as they are not only a waste of materials, but also can put one's home in danger of Taint.
